Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn are getting ready for the judgment day. In a new trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux, Oscar winners Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga create musical mayhem all over Gotham City.
The second trailer for Todd Phillips’ highly anticipated Joker sequel features even more deranged musical moments then the first. “Two years ago, the name Arthur Fleck hit Gotham like a hurricane," says one character in voiceover as Joaquin's Fleck is driven off to Arkham Asylum as crowds cheer for him in the street. “They believe he's some kind of martyr. He's not. He's a monster.” Once institutionalized, he meets Gaga's Harley Quinn and the two fall in love—leading to a terrifying a cappella rendition of Stevie Wonder's ”For Once in my Life."
In the trailer, which is underscored by Phoneix singing the Louis Armstrong classic “When You're Smiling (The Whole World Smiles Back At You)," Fleck and Quinn can be seen dancing on courtroom steps and starring in a Sonny and Cher-esque televised variety show called Joker & Harley. The trailer shows Fleck seemingly representing himself in court at “The Trial of the Century,” putting on a show for the jurors.
Joker Folie à Deux also stars Oscar nominees Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Catherine Keener (Get Out), and features Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), reprising her role from Joker.
The trailer ends with Harley Quinn singing a snippet of “Get Happy," by the one and only Judy Garland, to Fleck in the asylum, causing Fleck to break out into the Joker's signature cackle.
Joker: Folie à Deux hits theaters on October 4th, 2024.
