Jimmy Kimmel can’t get enough of the Oscars.
The ABC late-night veteran will return to host the 96th Academy Awards on March 10, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre. It will be his fourth time emceeing the show, after taking on hosting duties last year as well. Molly McNearney, Kimmel’s wife and co-head writer of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, will return for a second consecutive year to serve as an executive producer for the show.
“I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times,” said Kimmel in the Academy’s announcement.
Kimmel, who has led Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2003, is no stranger to hosting the Oscars in back-to-back years, having previously done so in 2017 and 2018. His first time was infamously the year of “envelopegate”, when La La Land was mistakenly announced as winner of the best picture award over Moonlight. At the 2023 show, Kimmel was mostly praised for shepherding through a mostly uneventful but entertaining show, a year after the turmoil that was brought about by the Will Smith and Chris Rock slap incident.
With the writers strike finally resolving, the Academy Awards can move forward with the originally planned date of March 10, 2024. The show will be executive produced by Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan and directed by Hamish Hamilton.
“We are thrilled about Jimmy returning to host and Molly returning as executive producer for the Oscars. They share our love of movies and our commitment to producing a dynamic and entertaining show for our global audience,” said the Academy’s Bill Kramer and Janet Yang. “We are deeply grateful to Jimmy, Molly and their teams for their incredible creativity and partnership and for going on this ride with us again.”
Kimmel joins a select group of names who have hosted the Oscars four times, including Jack Lemmon and Whoopi Goldberg. Bob Hope holds the record with a total of 19 appearances, and Billy Crystal follows with nine.
